Denise Bibro Fine Art is pleased to present Lisa Dinhofer: West Village Road Kill and Other Found Objects, the artist’s fifth solo show at the gallery, on view October 11 through November 10, 2012. Dinhofer’s new color pencil work continue her realist style, deftly creating meticulous portraits of creatures; dragonflies, turtles, birds, bats and grasshoppers, that comprise her surrounding neighborhoods of SoHo and the West Village.

Dinhofer refers to her subjects as “our roommates and neighbors.” All of Dinhofer’s subjects are either found by the artist or are offerings from friends. They are rendered on paper in the artist’s studio. Dinhofer’s object-based studies often magnify the subject up to ten times their actual size, celebrating the intricacies and subtleties of New York City’s flora and fauna. The flexibility of color pencil enables the artist to articulate the surface texture and transparency of a cicada wing, the soft plumage of a redheaded sparrow, and the radiating patterns on a tortoise shell.

Dinhofer’s work has been reproduced in numerous books and catalogues and mentioned in prestigious publications such as The New York Times, Art in America, and Art News. Her work is in several private, public and corporate collections including: the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, NY; The New York Public Library, NYC; City College, C.U.N.Y., NY; The Forbes Magazine Collection NY; Rose Art Museum, Brandeis University, Waltham, MA; Jane Voorhees Zimmerili Art Museum, Rutgers State University, New Brunswick, NJ; Pfizer, Inc., NY; DuPont Corporation, Wilmington, DE; and General Electric Co., Bridgeport, CT. Dinhofer was commission for a glass mosaic mural project by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), Art for Transit, New York, NY, on display at the 42nd street and 9th Avenue A/C/E Subway Line. Dinhofer is an instructor of drawing at the National Academy of Design, School of Fine Arts, NYC.
