Whitney Wood Bailey, Mitchel Coffman, and London Tsai: The Art of Now, Hearst Gallery Exhibition

Opening Reception January 12, 2016

Oscar Wilde, a talented aphorist, an underrated philosopher, advised us that the past is for the historians; the present is the realm of journalists; artists are the future. In today’s supercharged digital age, the future is harder and herder to see. What are our artists seeing— and saying? We have assembled a snapshot, a sampling from 17 New York galleries. It is in no sense interested as definitive. Artists’ visions are infinite. But if the past is any guide, our artists are likely, in aggregate, to have it more or less right. Draw your own conclusions, but not too quickly.
